Software Engineering: Websites, Apps, Custom Software & SaaS

We design and build the software your customers and staff use directly: websites, web applications, mobile apps, custom software, SaaS products and online stores. Each project is scoped around who will use it, what it has to connect to, and what your team will need to manage after launch.

Six Software Engineering Services

Most projects combine two or three of these, for example a web application with a companion mobile app.

Website Development

Company websites that explain what you do and make it easy for visitors to get in touch.

  • Custom-designed, responsive layouts
  • Built in custom code, WordPress or Shopify
  • Enquiry, quotation and file-upload forms
  • Fast-loading pages with a clean, crawlable structure

Web Application Development

Browser-based applications where people log in to get something done, such as customer portals, booking systems or internal tools.

  • Django or Node.js backends with React interfaces
  • User accounts with role-based permissions
  • REST APIs that mobile apps and other systems can use
  • Document and image uploads
Custom software details

Mobile App Development

iOS and Android apps, usually built from one Flutter codebase, together with the backend they rely on.

  • Flutter apps for phones and tablets
  • Secure REST backends with token authentication
  • Push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging
  • App Store and Google Play submission

Custom Software

Software built for a process that off-the-shelf products handle badly, and owned by your business rather than rented per user.

  • Your current process mapped before anything is designed
  • Relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Role-based access control
  • Source code ownership once payment obligations are met
Custom software development

SaaS Platforms

Multi-tenant web products that serve many customer organisations from a single application.

  • Data kept separate for each customer organisation
  • Sign-up, user invitations and token authentication
  • Subscription logic and billing webhooks

E-commerce Development

Online stores built on Shopify or as custom Django stores, organised so customers can find products and check out easily on a phone.

  • Shopify theme customisation
  • Payment gateway integration, such as Razorpay or Stripe
  • Organisation of large product catalogues
  • Mobile-friendly checkout

Who It's For and What It Solves

Who Usually Needs This

  • Founders launching a new product, app or SaaS idea.
  • Sales and marketing teams that need a website people can trust and contact easily.
  • Operations managers whose customers or field staff need a portal or an app.
  • Retail brands starting or rebuilding an online store.

Problems It Addresses

  • An outdated website that is hard to use on a phone or hard for your team to update.
  • Customers phoning or emailing for things they could do themselves online.
  • A process that no available product handles without awkward workarounds.
  • Separate web and mobile systems that don't share the same data.

What a Project Includes

Usually Included

  • Requirements and user-journey mapping.
  • Screen design for the pages and app views being built.
  • Front-end and back-end development.
  • Integration with services you use, such as payment gateways.
  • Testing across browsers and devices before release.
  • Launch, app store submission where relevant, and handover documentation.

Agreed Separately

  • Written content and photography are agreed per project; tell us if you need help with them.
  • Third-party costs such as domains, paid plugins, Shopify plans and app store developer accounts.
  • Existing code from another developer can be taken over after we review it.

How a Software Project Runs

The stages of our wider delivery process, applied to websites and applications.

01

Discovery & Structure

We agree the users, the key tasks they need to complete, and the pages or screens required.

02

Design & Prototype

Wireframes and visual designs are reviewed with you before development starts.

03

Build & Integrate

Front end, back end and integrations are built in stages you can review as they progress.

04

Test, Launch & Hand Over

Browser and device testing, release or store submission, then documentation for your team.

What We Need to Estimate Your Project

  • Who will use it, and the main things they need to do.
  • A list of the key pages, screens or features.
  • Examples of websites or apps you like.
  • Systems it must connect to, such as payments or an existing database.
  • Any existing site, app or code we would be replacing or extending.
  • Your target launch window.

Questions About Software Projects

Should we use WordPress, Shopify or a custom build?

It depends on what your team needs to edit and what the site has to do. WordPress suits content-led sites your staff update often, Shopify suits product stores, and a custom build suits sites or applications with logins, workflows or integrations that those platforms can't handle cleanly. We'll recommend one after discovery.

Will we own the source code?

Yes. Once the project is completed and payment obligations are met, you receive full ownership of the source code and project assets.

Can you continue a project someone else started?

Yes. We review the existing code first, identify issues, and then continue development from its current stage.

Planning a Website, App or Software Product?

Tell us who it's for and what it needs to do. We'll suggest an approach and give you an estimate.
